High River, AB (October 17, 2025) – The High River Flyers gave the Mountainview Colts a battle tonight at Bob Snodgrass Rec Plex, but came up short in a 4-3 hockey game.
The Flyers were hoping to turn their luck around after falling 5-2 to the HJHL’s second-seeded Red Deer Vipers this past Saturday (Oct. 11). Isaac Cayetano would pick up his fourth goal of the season for the Flyers’ first goal last Saturday, and McCallum Bakken added the second goal for his first since returning to the Flyers. Cayetano finished the night with two points as he had an assist on Bakkens’ marker. Lucas Gough and Lucas Hughes had a point each in the game as they assisted on Cayetano’s goal.
Kaiden Fulton would end up making 30 saves on 34 shots to keep the Flyers within reach against Red Deer. Fulton would get the nod again tonight against the Colts and once again kept the Flyers in the game with his 33 saves on 37 shots. Nicholas Smith made the start on the other end for the team based out of Didsbury.
The Flyers would outshot the Colts in the first period 9-7, but it was Mountainview who found the back of the net twice late in the first frame. Sawyer Loree opened the scoring for the Colts, with Blake Stoddard adding the second goal of the first period for Mountainview.
Bakken would respond for the Flyers, adding his second of the season with an unassisted goal. Just over eight minutes later, the Colts would regain their two-goal lead with Joseph Krukowski answering for Mountainview. Flyers assistant captain, Hughes, cut the Colts’ lead back to one after potting a power play marker over three minutes later. Assistant captain Ethan Burgeson and captain Wout Rehorst picked up a point each with the helpers. The Colts again would answer back before the second period came to a close, with Stoddard adding his second of the night.
Hughes, just like in the second period, cut the Colts’ lead back to a single goal with another power play goal early in the third period. Gough and Burgeson picked up the assists on the power play marker. Smith and the Colts would hold on to hand the Flyers a loss at Bob Snodgrass Rec Plex.
The Flyers will have another chance to bounce back tomorrow night when they face the Carstar Okotoks Bisons at Murray Arena. The Flyers have already claimed a victory at home against the Bisons this season and will look to make it two wins in a row against their Foothills rivals.
Puck drop is set for 8:30 p.m.
