High River, AB (September 21, 2025) – The High River Flyers were in a back-and-forth battle last night (Sept. 20) with the Agra Risk Wheatland Kings in Strathmore, coming up short in a 5-3 hockey game.

Erich Baxter made his first-ever start for the Flock and gave the Flyers every opportunity to take the win with his 37 saves on 42 shots. Former Okotoks Bisons netminder Connor White made the start for the Wheatland Kings.

The Flyers would once again start hot, scoring the game’s first goal just over a minute into the first frame, just like the home opener the night previous. High River captain Wout Rehorst picked up the goal with Ethan Burgeson and Lucas Gough collecting the helpers. The Wheatland Kings responded seven minutes later to bring the game back to even, thanks to Evan Dean’s second goal of the 2025-2026 HJHL season.

Isaac Cayetano added his first goal of the season before the first period came to a close, giving the Flyers the lead heading into the second period. Dane Christensen and Emerett Norleen picked up points on the goal as each had an assist. The second period would see the Kings get their first lead of the game as Chad Christensen and Brandon Corbeil found the back of the net in the middle frame.

Cayetano brought the game back to even early in the third period with a power play marker for his second goal of the night. Burgeson and Gough would claim their second points of the night with the assists. Cole Tweit and Luke Nottviet answered back with goals to retake the lead and add the insurance marker.

The Flyers will be back on home ice as they play their long-term rivals, the Okotoks Bisons, on Friday (Sept. 26) at Bob Snodgrass Rec Plex with an 8:30 p.m. start time.
