High River, AB (September 28, 2025) – The High River Flyers came away with a split this weekend after taking the win against the Carstar Okotoks Bisons on Friday (Sept. 26) and then falling 7-3 to the Copperheads tonight in Coaldale.

Erich Baxter made the start for the Flock, making 39 saves on 45 shots. Baxter has had a lot of work in his two starts, as he has faced a total of 87 shots. Brylin Noble was in net for the Copperheads.

Coaldale would score the opening and lone goal of the first period, with Eric Price getting the credit. The Copperheads would add two more goals less than eight minutes into the second frame, with Price collecting his second of the night and Jordan Vanden Elzen producing Coaldale’s third goal of the night.

The Flyers responded less than a minute after the Copperheads made it 3-0, with a shorthanded marker coming from Riley Potts, who had help from Dane Christensen. Griffin McCulloch would give Coaldale their three-goal lead back in the same frame, but Flyers captain Wout Rehorst found the back of the net before the period came to a close. Rehorst’s goal came on the power play, as assistant captain Ethan Brugeson picked up a point with the primary assist, and Emerett Norleen helped with the secondary assist.

The Flyers’ power play stayed hot with Burgeson finding twine to start the third period and get the Flock within one goal of tying the game. The Copperheads, however, solved the Flyers three more times, including an empty net goal before the final buzzer to take the game 7-3. Kobe Fujita, Cole Richardson, and Ryan Holm were the goal scorers for Coaldale.

The Flyers will get their chance at revenge in High River on Friday (Oct. 3) when the Copperheads make their way to Bob Snodgrass Rec Plex for their second meeting of the 2025-2026 HJHL season.
