High River, AB (November 1, 2025) – The High River Flyers got back in the win column tonight with a 6-4 win over the Arga Risk Wheatland Kings in Strathmore.

The Flock, who were not rewarded for their efforts last night against Cochrane, earned the blessings from the hockey gods tonight with a long-overdue win.

Erich Baxter, who has been solid in his first season with the Flyers, earned the win after stopping 26 shots against the Kings. Evan McNair would tend the goal on the other side of the ice.

Nine different Flyers got on the board with at least a point, including captain Wout Rehorst, assistant captain Ethan Burgeson, Grayson Griffith, and McCallum Bakken coming away with multiple points on the night.

The Flyers and Kings would trade goals midway into the first period, with the Kings getting on the board first with a goal from Tanner Phillips. Burgeson wouldn’t allow the Kings to hold a lead for long as he answered back 29 seconds later for his sixth goal of the season and second in as many nights. Assistant captain Lucas Gough added the primary assist, with Bakken getting the secondary helper.

Dane Christensen gave the Flyers their first lead of the hockey game 1:24 into the second period for his first-ever HJHL goal. Griffith and Owen Grant added points to their totals with the assist. The Kings brought it back to even over 10 minutes later as Emery Medicine Shield got on the scoreboard. Rehorst, who has been a staple of High River Flyers hockey for four seasons, gave the Flock their lead back before the period ended with an unassisted marker.

The back-and-forth tilt continued in the third with the Kings tying the game up once again as Chase Berg made it 3-3. Rehorst again would put the team on his back, getting the Flyers ahead 4-3 with just under six minutes into the third period. Griffith got the lone assist for his second helper of the night. Just over 10 minutes later, Cole Tweit brought it back to a tie game as he scored for Strathmore.

The Flyers, who were determined to come away with a win, got the game-winning goal from Bakken just 12 seconds after the Kings tied the game up. Burgeson collected the assist for his third point of the weekend. Assistant captain Lucas Hughes would ice the game with an empty net goal with seven seconds left in the game to give the Flyers the 6-4 win on the road. Isaac Cayetano added a point to his totals with the lone assist.

The Flyers and Kings will run it back on Friday, with High River playing host at the Bob Snodgrass Rec Plex at 8:30 p.m.
