High River, AB (October 11, 2025) – The High River Flyers were handed an 8-1 loss by the reigning HJHL champions in the Sylvan Lake Wranglers last night at Bob Snodgrass Rec Plex.
It wasn’t a pretty game, but one standout was Flyers netminder Erich Baxter, who made 51 saves, including 24 in the first period alone. Brock Lott made the start for the Wranglers.

Sylvan Lake opened the scoring with Maddox Bignell and Hayden Motowylo each picking up a goal before the halfway mark of the first period. The Flocks’ assistant captain, Lucas Hughes, cut the Wranglers’ lead in half at 8:03 into the frame with a power play goal. Assistant captains Ethan Burgeson and Lucas Gough added points to their totals with the assists.
The Wranglers would go on to score six unanswered goals to seal the game before the end of the third period. Owen Callow, Avery Shadbolt, Xaiden Bignell, Ethan Clark, and Riley Teulon all picked up goals, as well as Motowylo adding his second of the night.
The Flyers are in Red Deer tonight for the team’s Mom’s Trip and look the turn things around on the road. Puck drop is set for 8:00 pm.
